Designs and implements studies of the adverse, positive, and distributive economic consequences of environmental standards and strategies. Analytical design considerations will include potential integration of results with related cost-effectiveness, economic impact and benefit cost studies.
Serves as economist responsible for providing technical and policy advice to Agency economists and policy makers about the underpinnings to the scientific, economic and other technical assumptions underlying the benefits and economic analyses.
In cooperation with other EPA scientists, economists, and managers: plans and develops the economic, technical, scientific, and policy basis for economic analyses. Analyzes information and prepares study reports concerning the economic costs and impacts of environmental quality enhancement.
Reviews environmental, economic and financial literature to develop and enhance the information base necessary to conduct independent analyses of the regional, national, and international aspects of environmental quality management issues.
Provide technical support and expertise to regional, State, and local agencies, international agencies, Tribal agencies and the public on the costs of improving air quality.
Coordinates with other EPA scientists and external economists to plan, develop and implement economic analyses.
Serves as a liaison with government and non-government scientists, policy analysts, and economists, including peer review bodies such as EPA's Science Advisory Board.

This position is designated as Low Risk and requires a background investigation. Unless an appropriate background investigation is already on record with the Office of Personnel Management, you must undergo a background investigation.
A: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus;
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
