As a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, WG-8852-11/12, you will act as the Aircraft Mechanic (Crew Chief) with responsibility for managing the operational readiness of one or more aircraft, and proficiency training of supported aviation unit personnel; manage, monitor or perform overall maintenance, servicing, inspections and documentation for one or more highly technical, high performance military aircraft; perform work in complex conditions under time and/or mission constraints to include all weather and night operations; work with, coordinate and oversee the work of lower graded aircraft mechanics and certify the work of journey level workers in other trades working on the assigned aircraft; perform damage assessments and repairs; participate in mission preparation and recovery operations; oversee installation of equipment for special missions; expedite aircraft operations to include concurrent servicing, refueling, and/or reconfiguration of equipment for changes in operational missions; perform preflight, thru flight, and post-flight inspections and scheduled or unscheduled maintenance; serve as the technical authority to identify and advise on requirements for airframe, mechanical, electrical/environmental, avionics, engine, and pneudraulic repairs on assigned aircraft; work closely with maintenance supervisor(s) and production control personnel to report and maintain current aircraft status; request maintenance services exceeding AASF capabilities or time constraints; control and perform work assignments based upon priorities, workload, availability of parts, facilities, material and personnel; coordinate with maintenance supervisor(s) and production control on maintenance requirements to aircraft that require adjustment to changes in operational requirements; observe and inspect performance of other workers work to insure compliance with applicable technical publications, directives and local policy; accomplish operational tests of aircraft systems and components; oversee ground movement of aircraft; launches, recover, park and service aircraft; make diagnoses and solve malfunctions of aircraft systems and components by utilizing a wide variety of complex, state of the art computerized and/or non-computerized Test Measurement Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE), by studying layout drawings, blueprints and wiring diagrams, and analyzing specifications and operating characteristics of aircraft and their components; assist AVCRAD/DEPOT level maintenance activities on individual assigned aircraft discrepancies as required; ensure Unit Level Logistics-Aviation (ULLS-A) and other aircraft documentation accurately reflects status and airworthiness of assigned aircraft; provide technical guidance and assistance to flight crews regarding observed discrepancies, experienced in-flight characteristics and system malfunctions; perform or assist in aircrew debriefing; clear Red X status symbols on aircraft forms for work performed by others; perform in-process and final inspection of others' work on assigned aircraft and components and certify by signature adherence to work procedures and quality standards established by applicable publications; participate in Maintenance Test Flights as a crewmember or Technical Observer (TO), as required; may participate in operational flights as a crewmember or Flight Engineer; make decisions on a wide range of matters to ensure assigned aircraft is in the highest state of readiness and that maintenance performed is in accordance with the highest standards of safety, quality and technical compliance; plan, develop and conduct proficiency training during the technician work week to a multi-faceted workforce comprised of Full Time Support (FTS) and supported unit personnel; conduct and certify proficiency of trainees for additional or increased responsibilities; evaluate training by observation of performed tasks; assess skill level and proficiency of assigned personnel; prepare for and participate in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and support exercises; travel in military aircraft and drive/operate military vehicles/equipment; participate in various periods of temporary duty away from the place of assignment, as required; perform other duties as assigned.

Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. It is the intention of NGB/AVS the incumbent has the following qualifications:
-- Must have three years experience and/or appropriate training in such functions as troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, servicing, inspecting, and modifying aircraft, aircraft installed equipment and related ground support equipment.
-- Must have experience and/or appropriate training that would demonstrate a thorough knowledge of aircraft systems and components in electrical, fuel, hydraulic, environmental and mechanical principles. Insures proper work sequence planning and review, and a thorough understanding of technical orders, maintenance regulations and management operating procedures.
-- The incumbent must possess or be eligible for award of the appropriate security clearance for this position.
-- The incumbent may be required for NGB Non-Aviator Flying Status and qualified for Class III flying duties.
