The Critical Care Registered Nurse of the Nursing and Patient Care Services in VA San Diego Healthcare System is located at the main hospital in La Jolla, CA. The Critical Care Registered Nurse is a professional registered nurse who is responsible for the evidence-based care to patients undergoing surgical intervention and who utilizes the nursing process as part of the supplemental critical care float pool to:
· Demonstrate ability to appropriately triage patients and initiate orders from approved protocols.
· Safely participate in the resuscitation of a patient during code blue and rapid response situation.
· Manages critically ill patients during and after procedures where moderate sedation is needed.
· Apply and direct others to apply infection control measures appropriately in delivering care.
· Support and enhance patient self-determination.
· Serve as a resource for patients and staff in addressing ethical issues.
· Identify potential problems involving resources and/or safety and take action to ensure patient safety and a therapeutic environment.
· Adhere to ethical principles and nursing standards in delivering care.
· Demonstrate leadership in unit-level quality improvement activities.
· Apply knowledge and skill core competencies of the assigned unit to patient care.
· Utilize effective communication skills with individuals and groups to achieve desired patient outcomes.
