Democratic Commissioner of the Federal Election Commission seeks a talented attorney for an Executive Assistant/Counsel (EA) position. The EA serves as a confidential advisor to the Democratic Commissioners who, along with the other commissioners, manage all aspects of the Commission's business. This job provides an opportunity to work on timely and compelling issues in campaign finance and First Amendment law. It entails approximately 90% substantive legal work and 10% administrative work.

Providing advice and counsel on all aspects of the Commissioners' duties, including enforcement actions, policy issues, and the management of the agency. Drafting and editing legal documents and public statements related to rulemakings, advisory opinions, enforcement and audit matters, and other work of the Commission. Assisting with public outreach efforts, including drafting and editing op-eds and coordinating and preparing Commissioners for public and media appearances. Representing the Commissioners' offices in discussions and negotiations with other agency offices.
You must possess a J.D. or LL.B Degree and be a graduate from a full course of study in a School of Law accredited by the American Bar Association.
You must be an active member of the bar in good standing of a state, territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. (Note: proof of bar membership will be required before entry on duty).
A cover letter and legal writing sample (5-10 pages) are required. Applicants that do not provide a cover letter and a legal writing sample (5-10 pages) will be deemed ineligible and will not receive further consideration.
