This position is located within the Nursing Service at the VA Boston Healthcare System in Jamaica Plain, MA. The Registered Nurse - Operating Room will be responsible for providing comprehensive perioperative nursing care during a variety of surgical cases which include but are not limited to: ENT, General Surgery, GU, GI, Neuro vascular, Cardiac, and Orthopedic procedures. She/he may be assigned scrub or circulating duties as required. Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Provides leadership in the application of the nursing process to client care, organizational processes and/or systems, improving outcomes at the program or service level;
Provides leadership in identifying and addressing ethical issues that impact clients and staff, including initiating and participating in ethical consultations;
Manages program resources (financial, human, material and informational) to facilitate safe, effective and efficient care;
Uses professional standards of care and practice to evaluate programs and/or service activities;
Understands all scheduling functions, limitations, special instructions, clinic requirements, and eligibility criteria prior to the generation of an appointment;
Uses and reprocessing of Reusable Medical Equipment (RME);
Implements an education plan to meet changing program or service needs for self and others;
Maintains knowledge of current techniques, trends, and professional issues; Incorporates team building and coaching behaviors with individuals and groups to improve the delivery of patient care and/or programs;
Uses group processes to identify, analyze, and resolve patient care problems;
Works cooperatively and effectively with patients, families, members of other disciplines, and co-workers to accomplish program goals;
Initiates interdisciplinary projects to improve program or service performance; and
Collaborates with others in research activities to improve care
NOTE: This position (Registered Nurse - Operating Room) is subject to a special salary rate, ranging from $78,264 to $140,413 per annum. Selectee will be required to sign a Memorandum of Understanding regarding special salary rate.
Work Schedule: Full Time Day Shift; Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pm with rotation to 8am-4:30pm
