This position is located in the Commander, Navy Region Hawaii (CNRH), Fleet & Family Readiness Department (FFR), NAF Human Resources Background Investigation Office. The purpose of this position is to provide administrative support to the NAF HR office for background check processing. This position is responsible for processing formal background check documentation as well as input and tracking of all Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) personnel actions for CNRH. Work is subject to audit and is critical to the organization. Responsible for monitoring of employment suitability of candidates considered for work with children and other NAF positions, CDH program applicants, Volunteers and Interns.

Incumbent processes security employment suitability requests ensuring issuance on a need-to-know basis only; investigative basis is current, completed and favorable; initiates investigations as necessary; assists with review of Personnel Security Investigations (PSA); accesses the Joint Personnel Adjudication System (JPAS) to perform personnel security checks, and utilizes the Electronic Questionnaire for Investigations Processing (e-QIP) to transmit documentation to the Central Suitability Office (CSO) and may transmit on occasion to the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).
Incumbent initiates and completes all Childcare background documents, insuring accuracy and uploads to the CSO for processing.
Incumbent reviews background check results and identifies any derogatory or disqualifying information that may have an adverse impact on the security employment suitability eligibility determination and/or assignment or retention in a position. Forward negative results to Security Supervisor from any background investigation.
Incumbent assists with coordination of background investigation requirements for one or more of the following employee: employees, applicants, Child Development Home (CDH) , Interns and Volunteers.
Incumbent helps perform other administrative functions relative to the overall operation of the NAF HR Office and responds to inquiries from management, departments/facilities serviced regarding processing of background checks.
May handle reference checks, employee verifications and other security related NAF HR functions.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

The work is primarily sedentary in nature. Occasional travel is required between regional work sites to assist with security forms and fingerprinting.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Requires practical knowledge of security procedures, processes, methods, and techniques. Detailed knowledge of specific procedures and policies will be gained within the assignment.
Skill in verbal expression to explain processes and procedural matters
Must possess excellent computer skills and be able to reach high level of proficiency in agency systems including civilian timekeeping systems, automated fingerprint and security systems, regional personnel and safety databases and non-appropriated personnel systems (SAPHR)
Must have demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software, primarily Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook to input and maintain records, create reports and presentation materials, and communicate with employees.
Must possess good verbal and written communication skills including grammar, spelling, punctuation, phone etiquette and basic business writing skills.
