These positions are Part-Time temporary position not-to-exceed 1039 regular hours (about 6 months) in a service year. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for De Soto National Memorial is November - April, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: Late November to Mid-December.

Operates the visitor center by answering visitor questions, explaining regulations, collecting fees, keeping records and recording and safeguarding funds, etc. Inform visitors about park facilities, resources and safety. Incumbent conducts basic research of topics for the purpose of providing interpretive programs both orally and/or in writing from provided materials. Presents a variety of formal and informal programs including orientation talks, environmental educational programs, conducted walks, kayak, tours, living history demonstration, off-sites programs and campfire programs. Assist conducting thematic programs, presentations, special events, and celebrations. Operates a variety of audiovisual and other equipment used in making presentations, e.g., projectors, and video equipment.
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

Physical Demands:
The work requires standing for long period of time, walking for long distances, climbing and descending steep inclines, bending, and lifting moderately heavy items. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds (for living history programs and camp set up). Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts, occasional emergency response, and repetitive nature of interpretive programs.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed most of the times outdoors with some indoor duties resulting in exposure to a variety of weather conditions. Must be able to work in a camp fire environment (Camp Ucita is a representation of the 1539 camp De Soto established in the area). A camp fire is used to interpret some of the daily activities of camp life and smoke is part of that period lifestyle. Must be able to obtain a black powder weapons firing demonstration certification (selectee will be trained in black weapon use and will be required to perform firing demonstrations).
