About the Position:
Position located at US Army Institute of Surgical Research, Burn Center, Ft. Sam, TX.
Management prefers Board Certified or Board Eligible General Surgery, Internal Medicine, or Family Practice Physician.
Management prefers Physician with experience in care of complex wounds.
The U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research (USAISR), a U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC) asset and is collocated with the San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC), Fort Sam Houston, Texas. The USAISR is dedicated to BOTH laboratory and clinical trauma research. Its mission is to provide requirements-driven combat casualty care medical solutions and products for injured service members, from self-aid through definitive care across the full spectrum of military operations; provide state-of-the-art trauma, burn, and critical care to Department of Defense beneficiaries around the world and civilians in our trauma region; and provide Burn Special Medical Augmentation Response Teams.
The USAISR is participating in an alternative personnel system known as the Personnel Demonstration Project. The DB-III Pay Band incorporates the former General Schedule GS-13 Step 1 to GS-14 Step 10. In Keeping with the Demonstration pay fixing policies, employees earning a salary that falls within this pay band equivalent will not receive an immediate pay increase if appointed to this position. Future pay increases within the pay band will be accomplished through the pay for performance management system.
Fort Sam Houston is located in beautiful San Antonio, TX, with a population of approximately 1M people. Additionally, there are many surrounding smaller towns within a 30 mile radius to include Universal City, Converse, Kirby, Shertz, and Cibolo. For those of you who prefer country living, ranches and property can be easily found in the big and beautiful State of Texas.
Medical malpractice liability insurance is not required for federal civilian healthcare providers as they are covered by the Federal Tort Claims Act (28 U.S.C. § 1346(b)) while acting within the scope of their employment.
