The Medical Technician serves in the Clinical Laboratory at Spokane VAMC, Spokane, WA. The incumbent is responsible for the performing of phlebotomies, moderately complex lab testing, specimen receiving, laboratory shipping, processing blood cultures, employee drug testing, quality control for the processing and procurement department, and the running and maintenance of the pre-automation instrumentation of the main laboratory.
Duties include:
Physical Requirements: Ability to perform the following tasks: climbing stairways, stooping, standing, and bending. Light to medium weight items are carried around the work area and not exceeding 30 lbs.
The majority of the work is performed in a laboratory setting where there are everyday risks of possible physical abuse from emotionally disturbed patients. Employee handles infectious substances and is exposed to recurring risks associated with work in a clinical laboratory. Incumbent wears protective clothing such as coat, mask and gloves as appropriate to meet safety requirements and adopts aseptic techniques.
