Area Information: St. Croix National Scenic River encompasses 71,036 acres and 230 miles of mostly free flowing river. It includes 130.5 miles of the St. Croix River, much of which forms the border between Minnesota and Wisconsin, and all 99.5 miles of its largest tributary, the Namekagon River in northwest Wisconsin. The park has diverse flora and fauna derived from a mixing of three major plant communities: prairie, northern hardwoods and boreal forest, primarily in a riverine setting. Summer daytime temperatures are mild, averaging 75-85 degrees Fahrenheit, and nighttime temperatures averaging 60-70 degrees.
Multiple positions may be filled. Duty stations for these positions are located in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin,. St. Croix Falls has a population of around 2100, and is located approximately one hour northeast of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota.
Government housing may be available. Housing is available for rent or purchase in surrounding areas, however, the selection is limited.
This is a Full-Time TERM position. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status in the Federal service and will be for a period not to exceed thirteen months, with possible extensions up to a total of four years without further competition.

The Lead Park Guide provides informational, interpretive and general services to park visitors, including presenting programs, interpreting natural, cultural and historic resources, and answering general information, recreation and orientation questions. The position also leads the work of seasonal employees, interns, and volunteers. This involves distributing and monitoring work assignments, providing on-the-job training and other instruction, and maintaining effective working relationships and communication.
Direct Deposit: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
Drug Testing: This position is subject to both pre-employment and random drug testing as a condition of employment. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test is received.
Driver's License: You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
Uniform: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
Work Schedule: You may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime work.
Probationary Period: You will be required to complete a one-year trial period.
Travel: You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 1 night per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

Physical Demands: Standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting of moderately heavy items and paddling and hiking are required, as are periods of sedentary work. Duties may be physically rigorous in an isolated outdoor environment during the delivery of programs, routine operations, etc.
Working Conditions: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors resulting in exposure to a variety of weather conditions. Work performed in the office can be stressful due to the number of visitors requiring assistance. Delivery of programs in the field is conducted on foot or on water, in remote backcountry settings, with exposure to a hazardous environment where the adherence to specific safety procedures and other precautions is required.
Telework: The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.
