The primary goal of the Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) position is to provide a broad range of psycho-social services to combat veterans and their family members by assisting them in their readjustment to civilian life and to assist combat active duty personnel in serving a successful military service. The Readjustment Counseling Service (RCS) provides services to eligible veterans and combat active duty personnel and their family members in "storefront" counseling centers located in the communities. The Vet Center services include, but are not limited to: counseling services to combat veterans from all eras, veterans sexually traumatized while on active duty, combat active duty personnel and families of service members killed on active duty. The goal of this program is to establish and maintain an outreach program to assist those eligible veterans and combat active duty personnel who have failed to make adequate psychosocial adjustment and re entry into civilian life and a successful military career, respectively.
The Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) serves as a member of a multi-disciplinary Vet Center team and is responsible for coordinating and providing combat active duty personnel and their family counseling services in the Vet Center or in off-site offices. Conducts assessment interviews, develops treatment plans and provides treatment to combat active duty personnel and their families. Treatment modalities may include crisis intervention as well as both short and long-term services. The LPMHC may refer clients to other programs and professionals to include the VA Medical Center or Outpatient Clinic. Participates in and provides consultation to other team members; participates in conjoint emergency treatment with medical facility mental health personnel. Identifies in-crisis combat active duty personnel and their family members. Provides crisis intervention, stabilization and follow-up for combat active duty personnel and significant others. Provides follow-up evaluations to determine appropriateness of services, and provides additional services or referrals as required.Provides instruction/training and consultation in assessing and counseling combat active duty personnel with suicidal or homicidal ideations or PTSD. Performs other additional assignments as needed.
WORK SCHEDULE: ***Jacksonville Location*** Monday - Friday, 9:30 a.m to 6:00 p.m to include evening, irregular tours of duty & weekend hours as needed.
WORK SCHEDULE: ***Fayetteville Location*** Wednesday - Saturday, 7:00 a.m to 5:30 p.m to include evening, irregular tours of duty & weekend hours as needed. At least 1 day of travel per week to off-site location to provide counseling services.
Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. The job requires sitting, bending, walking, standing and carrying light items such as charts, books, etc. Position requires a current driver's license and an ability to operate an automobile. It is expected that the employee may spend time in the community outreach and networking.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Specialized Experience: Have at least 1 year in an area of specialized mental health counseling experience. Experience satisfying this requirement must be active professional practice at the post-masters degree level, which is paid/non-paid employment as a professional mental health counselor.
GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
In addition to the basic requirements, candidates must have at least 1 year of post-masters degree mental health counseling experience;
OR
In addition to the basic requirements, a doctoral degree in mental health counseling, or a related field may be substituted for the required 1 year of professional mental health counseling experience.
