Serves as the Facility Coordinator and Metrology Representative for the 8ft High Temperature Tunnel Complex consisting of Buildings 1265, and 1265B-F and is assigned to the Supersonic/Hypersonic Testing Branch(SHTB) of the Research Directorate (RD). The 8-fT High Temperature Tunnel Complex is a major and critical element of the U.S's supersonic and hypersonic research and development infrastructure. The complex consists of all of the basic utilities in addition to HVAC systems to maintain a research environment, high pressure air, nitrogen, methane, water and hydraulic systems, liquid oxygen and liquid nitrogen cryogenic systems, pneumatics, cooling water systems, high voltage electrical, etc.

In this position, the incumbent performs Facility Coordinator duties per LPR 1740.3. Responsible for maintaining the facility in a constant state of operational readiness by overseeing maintenance, replacement, repair, or modification to facility and research systems. Plans/manages/reviews all facility work orders, CMOL documents, facility resumes, etc. Identifies problems, determines procedural needs, engages appropriate services such as engineering, and ensures timely completion of repairs. Provides facility support essential to the continuous operations critical to research in state-of-the-art laboratories. Plans, oversees and accepts work performed by contract personnel. Assures compliance to all certification, safety, fire prevention, and security program requirements. Coordinates and assists in solving system anomalies that affect facility operations. Defines, integrates, coordinates and schedules with the research and operations staff the most logical, safe and efficient approach to conduct multiple simultaneous tests while maintaining readiness of all facility and test support equipment and consumables. Coordinates activities with a variety of customers including: Branch Head, Fac Safety Head and Test Eng/Lead Tech. Provides critical judgment affecting the safety and reliability of facility and research hardware where failure would likely lead to serious consequences. Performs facility planning for new research capabilities or the undertaking of facility rehab that affect on-going research.
Makes tactical facilities maintenance and modification recommendations to develop state-of-the-art laboratories. Performs and oversees facility rehab/modifications that involve basic utilities, facility systems, research systems, HVAC, safety, etc. Serves as point-of-contact for facilities engineering projects and assists with the development, evaluation and approves final specifications/drawings during the design, construction, and inspection process. Utilizes an expert knowledge of facility systems to improve integration efficiencies and reduce cost associated with research testing. Makes high-level technical decisions regarding the design, dev. and testing of combinations of major equipment components, subsystems or systems prior to their release for production or purchase to achieve such goals as functionality, reliability and maintainability. Provides creative solutions to unique situations where guidelines are general in nature and events cannot be predicted. Confers/consults with management, program and engineering in preparing requirements and criteria for complex, high value projects requiring the construction or modification of facilities, systems, equipment or hardware. Serves as an expert resource on facility systems integration for project engineers to improve design, reduce changes and enhance future operations.
