Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission. They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations. The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.
The mission of USMEPCOM and the Albany, NY Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) is to process individuals for enlistment or induction into the armed services, based on DoD-approved peacetime and mobilization standards.
Intermittent employees will be paid by actual hours worked based on the LOCALITY PAY AREA OF Albany NY, GS-4 salary scale, but not as a salary, instead at the comparable hourly rate of $13.84 (GS-4 step 1) to 20.33 (GS-4 step 10). The majority will start at the comparable hourly rate of $13.84 (GS-4 step 1).
This position does not provide guaranteed work hours each week, and work will be assigned on an intermittent "as needed basis". This position will NOT lead to a full-time position.
Benefits are limited: Intermittent employees are eligible for participation in the Federal Employee Retirement Plan (FERS) as well as the Thrift Savings Plan. They MAY be eligible to enroll in health plans with this position, but only if they are expected to be in pay status for at least 130 hours per month (30 hours per week) for at least 90 days. Also, in certain situations, based on law, variations to benefits entitlements apply to current Federal employees allowing them to carry over health, dental, vision or life insurance plans. Test Administrators do not receive paid vacation or sick days.
