This position is in NASA's Pathways Intern Program which provides students with the opportunity to explore NASA careers and gain meaningful developmental work experience.
This position is located in the Aeronautics Systems Engineering Branch, Engineering Directorate.
Intern will serve as an Electronics, or Electrical Engineering Technician Intern within the Engineering Directorate to perform research contributing to NASA’s program and project milestones.
Upon graduation, successful completion of the Pathways Intern Employment Program, Engineering Technicians may be noncompetitively selected in to NASA Langley Research Center's (LaRC's) Engineering Technician Apprentice Program (ETAP); however, there is no obligation on the part of LaRC to do so. Budget and other constraints may preclude converting successful students to apprentice appointments. The objective of LaRC's ETAP is to provide on-the-job training to selected, qualified applicants in technical fields that have particular application to the research and development needs of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in order to provide a highly skilled Engineer Technician workforce in support of Center programs.

This position is part of the NASA Pathways Intern Program which is a formal training program. You may be required to perform rotational assignments in various organizations.
Under guidance of a higher-graded Engineer Technician, the Intern will:
-Assist in performing basic engineering technician tasks and calculations applying standard formulas to engineering technician problems
-Review requests and assist in determining action to be taken to accomplish assigned tasks
-Perform assignments which are selected to provide practical application of theory and basic engineering technician skills related to the task
-Generate engineering designs and construction, assembly and deployment of instrumentation components and systems in facilities
-Develop processes for arranging, mounting, and wiring components on a chassis to assure that possible sources of electrical interference are physically isolated or shielded
-Perform a wide variety of technical functions to install, calibrate, test and troubleshoot electrical and electronic control systems
-Assist with testing activities including model set-up, instrument calibration, instrument and test rig checkout, facility operational checkout, operation of wind tunnels and data acquisition systems
-Installation, operational checkout, and assistance with in-situ calibration of instrumentation systems, as well as the design and fabrication of custom fixtures to support test articles
-Document control processes by creating or updating appropriate drawings and or procedures, and understand the process of incorporating the documentation in the center configuration management system
-Assist in designing, assembling, and testing instrumentation and measurement systems to include assembly of electronic and electrical components, cabling, data systems, and computer controlled instruments.

Starting GS grade levels are determined by education level:
Candidates must meet the following education requirements to the grade for which an applicant is qualified must be based on the degree the applicant is currently pursuing:
GS-03: Enrolled in an Associate’s program and have completed at least 15 semester hours or at least 23 quarter hours of undergraduate education.
Starting salary: $26,150
GS-04: Enrolled in an Associate’s program and have completed at least 30 semester hours or at least 45 quarter hours of undergraduate education.
Starting salary: $29,356
Interns may be promoted to higher grades based on the amount of education completed and acceptable performance. However, promotions are not guaranteed.
