The MVO Leader position is located in the Medical Administration Service (MAS) Transportation Unit. The incumbent is the working leader of the Transportation Unit. He/She leads a team consisting of (9) Motor Vehicle Operators, WG-5703 at grade 7, (5) WG-06 and (17) WG-05. He/she leads motor vehicle operations such as work schedules, vacation schedules, vehicle inspections, cleaning and answers questions pertaining to operation of motor vehicles and VA policies. The incumbent is required to work Monday through Friday on approved MAS shifts and may be required to work on holidays or weekends. Position may require overtime work including call-back overtime.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
-Develops and completes assigned work, maintains time and attendance, vacation schedules, vehicle cleaning and maintenance schedules.
-Distributes and balances the workload among employees in accordance with established work flow or job specialization. Assures that all assigned workloads are accomplished on a timely basis, and are completed accurately.
-Keeps in touch with the status and progress of work, and makes day-today adjustments in accordance with
established priorities.
-Obtains assistance from the supervisor on problems that may arise, such as backlogs which cannot be disposed of promptly.
-Maintains a current knowledge and answers questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives, etc. and obtains needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems which arise.
-Checks on work in progress or spot checks work not requiring review (e.g. filing or direct services) and reviews completed work to see that supervisor's instruction on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines have been met.
-Monitors working conditions such as seating, ventilation, lighting, safety, etc.
-Informs employees of available services and employee activities.
-Resolves simple informal complaints of employees and refers others to supervisor.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm, cross campus coverage between East Orange, NJ and Lyons, NJ as needed
Position Description Title/PD#: Motor Vehicle Operator Leader/#8294-0
Physical Effort: Required to sit for long periods of time and drive long distances. Muscular effort and coordination are required in operation of the various types of vehicles and trucks. Will be required to do heavy lifting and pushing in loading and unloading carts, suppli es, and passengers. Under certain conditions the physical exertion of making emergency road repairs is required.
Working Conditions: Operator is required to work outside and is frequently exposed to bad weather conditions while loading and unloading vehicle. Works in slippery loading areas and walkways and is subject to cuts, bruises, and injury as a result of accidents while driving, loading and unloading vehicles. Incumbent is exposed to noxious fumes from engines, traffic hazards and possible exuberance of patients.
Your background must demonstrate experience in motor vehicle operation, including sedans, station wagons, and pick up trucks, stretcher transportation vehicles and buses, transporting both cargo and people, loading and unloading patients, and securing cargo.
EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume.
