WHAT DOES A TAX EXAMINING TECHNICIAN DO? IRS employs Tax Examining Technicians (TETs) in many areas throughout the Service. In the W & I function, TETs assist management by providing oversight and direction, assigning case referrals, and answering taxpayer inquiries to resolve issues such as tax processing.
WHAT IS THE WAGE & INVESTMENT DIVISION: The Wage & Investment Division (W&I) serves about 122 million taxpayers who file upwards of 94 million returns each year. Key W&I objectives are to provide high-quality taxpayer assistance, and to enable taxpayers to transact and communicate electronically to file their returns, make payments and receive assistance. W&I partners with private organizations to provide assistance to such disadvantaged groups as elderly and low-income taxpayers.
Positions are located in Covington, KY.
The anticipated start date is March 2018.
Temporary Appointment with a Seasonal - Full Time work schedule. May work up to 6 months or more in a calendar year – initial appointment is NTE 1 year. This appointment can be extended.

As a Tax Examining Technician, you will:
The work is primarily sedentary and performed at a desk or similar work station but may require repetitive arm and hand motion, extended sitting, or light lifting, or reading from a CRT screen. There are no special physical demands are required to perform the work.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Probationary period is not required. Position can be terminated anytime.
- Must successfully complete a background investigation including an FBI criminal history record check (fingerprint check).
- Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency
- If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
- Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
