VISN 16 PATHOLOGY AND LABORATORY MEDICINE at Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS) seeks a board-certified pathologist in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. The successful candidate will report to the Chief of Pathology and will share clinical and administrative responsibilities in the CAVHS, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service.

Applicants must have strong academic credentials with a track record of translational or clinical research, and are expected to actively contribute to departmental educational programs including training of residents, fellows, and medical students. The candidate must possess M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degrees and be board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology. The incumbent must be eligible for an appointment with the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences, UAMS to allow participation in the CAVHS based teaching program. Academic series and rank will be commensurate with experience and training.
The combined anatomic and clinical pathologist is able to perform the following services required in the practice of Surgical Pathology and Clinical pathology.
-Application of accepted criteria in formulating and reporting diagnostic information on various anatomic pathology specimens to include Surgical Pathology and autopsy pathology.
-Provide clinical laboratory consultation for all clinical laboratory services to technical personnel and healthcare providers.
-Participation in Quality Assurance measures for laboratory sections as required by accreditation standards.
-Teaching of residents, medical students, allopathic medicine students and other healthcare personnel who seek training within the field of Pathology.
-The AP/CP pathologist is ultimately responsible for diagnostic interpretation of specimens processed within the laboratory.
-The AP/CP pathologist will provide residents and/or trainees information on specimen processing and evaluation.
-Review of gross specimens
-Processing and interpretation of intraoperative frozen sections.
-Provide intraoperative and intra-procedural consultation as requested.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Physical Requirements:
Be able to conduct light lifting (under 15 pounds), light carrying (under
15 pounds), walking (4-6 hours), standing (4-6 hours), repeated bending (1-2
hours), ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, near
vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, depth
perception, ability to distinguish basic colors, ability to distinguish shades
of colors, hearing (aid permitted), emotional stability.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience:
Subspecialty certification is desired but is not a requirement for the position.
