The incumbent serves as the senior management official at the facility level and direct the IT Operations Service. Then incumbent manages and facilitates execution of VA Information Technology policies, standards, programs and budget for IT operations and maintenance functions at the field facility. Provides technical and operational control and has supervisory responsibility over administrative and technical personnel in the accomplishment of the se duties. The incumbent reports to the Network Chief Information Officer within the Office of Information and Technology Field Operations organization. The incumbent of this position actively participates in standardizing IT infrastructure operations to gain compatibility, interoperability and resource savings.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary often requiring long hours to meet project deadlines and devise solutions to unexpected problems. Lifting of computer equipment such as personal computer's, printers and monitors is required.
Time-in-grade: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. For a GS-13 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-12 level.

Specialized Experience: Applicants must have One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-12) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: providing continuous availability and support of applications and databases for the clinical and administrative function for a medical center; managing and providing information services to achieve economies of scale not attainable by individual services or departments; having experience that demonstrates the four required competencies related to attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving; supervising IT personnel; serving as liaison between administration and user areas; selecting hardware and software for local enhancement of applications and systems; and planning and scheduling implantation for application modules.
