Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctions/failures and performs required adjustments/repairs using a variety of test equipment, such as tech, dwell, timing light, oscilloscopes, compression gauges, emission analyzers, engine and chassis dynamometers, charging system meters, combustion analyzer, air conditioning, and diagnostic unit. Explain repair requirements and estimates to patrons, as required.
Installs, replaces or repairs items involving moderate complexity within the following systems: ignitions, charging, exhaust, brakes, air conditioning, front suspension, emission control, fuel, starting, and drive train assembly (u-joints, pinion seals, etc). Adjusts settings, according to manufacturer's specifications for ignition point and timing, voltage regulator, points, gapping spark plugs, engine idle and carburetor air/fuel mixtures, etc.
May assist in performing major repairs to engines, transmissions, differentials, and suspensions. May give safety instruction classes to patrons. Insures compliance with fire, safety, sanitation and security regulations.
Maintains tools and work area in a clean and orderly manner. May operate patron/NAF activity motor vehicles for the purpose of road testing or moving the vehicle in or out of the work area.
