The position is located in DHS, the USCG, Legal Service Command (LSC), General Law Division, in Alameda, CA. The primary mission of the LSC is to provide legal support and services to the Coast Guard Deputy Commandant for Operations (DCO) and to the Coast Guard Deputy Commandant for Mission Support (DCMS) and subordinate units located throughout the world, and USCG headquarters units outside of the National Capitol Region (hereinafter, the “LSC AOR”). The DCMS enterprise is comprised of approximately 70 client commands and accounts for approximately 40% of the Coast Guard’s personnel strength.
The incumbent's primary responsibility is to furnishing federal environmental legal advice and guidance to field units in the LSC AOR. The incumbent may be required to litigate matters before administrative courts and panels, or provide litigation support to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). The incumbent may also be required to provide sound and timely, oral and written, legal advice and counsel to LSC client commands in various General Law practice areas.
