The incumbent serves as manager of comprehensive inpatient wards/some clinics/mail room operation sections of the Health Administration Service (HAS) at VASTLHCS. The incumbent is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, implementing, directing, and controlling the overall HAS Medical Support Assistant activities of all inpatient wards and some clinics, and the mail room operations at both the John Cochran and Jefferson Barracks Divisions, which is designed to support comprehensive patient administration activities at VASTLHCS. The incumbent also provides technical advice on mail operations to the Community Based Outpatient Clinics and Annexes that are part of VASTLHCS.
Major program responsibilities include:
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm. Some weekends will be required on occasion.

Duty Station: John Cochran, but may be changed to another VASTLHCS location at any time based on the needs of the medical center.
Physical Requirements: Duties involve considerable walking and sitting. They also include occasional bending, standing, lifting, and carrying of manuals, files and medical records. A substantial amount of time involves reading, writing, and utilizing computers.
Time-in-grade: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-09 level.

Specialized Experience: Applicants must have One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-09) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Inpatient Ward Supervisor or Supervisory Medical Support Assistant.

Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-11 level.
OR
Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-11 level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-11.
