The selectee for this position will serve as a PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN OF NAVAL DRUG SCREENING LAB.

This position is with the Navy Drug Screening Laboratory Great Lakes. We are the largest DoD drug laboratory providing forensic testing for more than one million military personnel annually. The lab is located in a brand new state-of-the-art facility along Lake Michigan on the Great Lakes Naval Station in northern Chicago. The position is with the lab's analytical testing department which is responsible for determining the identity and concentration of drugs and drug metabolites in urine. The successful selectee will perform the following duties:
A SECRET security clearance is a requirement of this position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a position offer or removal.
A favorable ANACI (Access National Agency Check and Inquiries) background investigation is required for noncritical sensitive positions with access to network systems.
Selectee will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
This is a Department of the Navy drug testing designated position. In accordance with Executive Order 12546, applicants selected are required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. Drug test results will be provided to the employing activity/command. In addition, this position is a drug-testing designated position (TDP) subject to random testing for illegal drug use. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the applicant fails to report to the scheduled drug test appointment.

Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. Successful completion of 2 years (60 semester hours) above high school directly related to the position that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as physical science, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics. This education must be obtained at an accredited college or university. Possession of the requirements must be verifiable via SUBMITTING A COPY of the transcripts, degree, or diploma with your application.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE GS-05:
Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. Successful completion of a 4-year (120 semester hours) course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses directly related to the position (a) with major study in an appropriate field of physical science, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as physical science, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics. This education must be obtained at an accredited college or university. Possession of the requirements must be verifiable via SUBMITTING A COPY of the transcripts, degree, or diploma with your application.
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.
