As a FABRIC WORKER, WG-3105-9, you will
(1) Develops working sketches containing dimensional data whenever specifications are not available. Draws individual patterns or changes existing patterns for the purpose of producing custom items and covers for a wide variety of equipment or components. The unusual size and shape of these items are such that the design requires difficult planning and somewhat complex mathematical calculations. Determines critical points of strain and ensures proper reinforcement.
(2) Performs required inspections and shop repair on all parachutes, survival equipment, flotation equipment, fabric leather, and rubber and aircrew personal flying equipment as prescribed in appropriate technical publications. Examines parachutes to detect rips or tears, stains, and/or other signs of damage or deterioration. Determines serviceability of parachutes, schedules appropriate maintenance, and prepares inspection records. Assembles and maintains anti-exposure and toxicological suits.
(3) Cleans, repairs, and packs sophisticated multiple personnel, cargo and deceleration parachutes. Inspects and identifies property according to condition. Drop-tests parachutes from aircraft. Observes opening time, rate of descent, and stability. Recovers parachute and inspects components for damage. Inspects, adjusts, repairs, and tests intricate automatic and manual release assemblies for proper operation. Assembles all types of parachutes upon receipt. Pre-useness of assembly is critical.
(4) Designs and manufactures standard fabric and leather items required in all functional areas assigned and/or attached to the base concerned. Operates, repairs, and maintains sewing machines, punch presses and other related equipment. Inspects, cleans and tests safety belts and harnesses.
(5) Performs technical order compliance and modifications on parachutes. Assists in scheduling and performance of technical order compliance and modifications on all other survival equipment. Performs periodic inspections and functional tests of all fabric equipment including life rafts and emergency escape slides. Installs equipment on aircraft and removes for inspection and repair.
(6) Serves as on-the-job trainer in the survival equipment shop. Evaluates training effectiveness and maintains training records. Conducts classes of instruction on methods and procedures of operation.
(7) May be required to perform such duties as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operator, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or serve as member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies.
(8) Performs other duties as assigned.
MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:
Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Technicians will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor or wage leader (Grade Inversion). Enlisted members currently at a higher grade than allowed by the position (see Military Grade Requirement above) may apply; however, they must administratively reduce prior to appointment and provide confirmation of the reduction to HRO.
Compatible Military Assignments: Selectee must be a member of the Arkansas Air National Guard and be assigned to the 189th AW in a compatible military position in Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC) 1P0X1.
Must become compatible in the AFSC within 12 months of appointment. Must possess or be able to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.
