As a SOCIAL WORKER, GS-0185-12, you will coordinate with the National Guard community serving military and non-military agencies to promote and achieve information exchange, coordinate collaborative prevention efforts, and establish and maintain an array of resources, associations, and community partnerships; participate in community activities to incorporate strategies; ensure that curriculums and community intervention initiatives for each prevention program are research-based and supported; participate in committee meetings; coordinate findings and effects of outreach efforts with the State Surgeon and key leaders; liaison between the military and non-military community agencies; represent the community outreach and prevention initiatives and programs; conduct needs assessments, intake evaluations, and psycho-diagnostic assessments; prepare written evaluation reports with clinical impressions and recommendations; accomplish intake interviews; assess individuals to explore the development of behavior patterns, mechanisms, and symptoms; determine facts concerning clients' problems, strengths, and the underlying causes; use and interpret various psychological assessment measures; provide assessment and evaluation; provide feedback to other medical provider and service member's commander, regarding assessment findings and recommendations; integrate findings, referral, and assessment, using assessment guidelines of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) of the American Psychiatric Association, screen records and personnel for security clearances and make administrative recommendations; coordinate and implement prevention and community outreach and education programs; conduct needs assessments and Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunity, and Threat (SWOT) analysis; implement community organization strategies with key organizations; develop and provide access to secondary preventive support services and psycho-educational skills-development activities; coordinate the development and implementation of an annual, Unit-level psychological health strategic plan; develop evaluation process to monitor prevention and outreach programs and access to resources; design and manage special programs, services, and information and awareness presentations; monitor prevention and outreach/education programs and access to service; develop, teach, and provide oversight for classes that promote education and skill-building to enhance psychological and physical health; evaluate training opportunities and professional development activities; provide training to mental health providers and other medical personnel on psychological health matters, resources, and interventions; be responsible for marketing and marketing evaluation activities; serve as primary consultant and advisor on methods to market the National Guard's health; formulate strategies to generate interest, acceptance, and participation by National Guard community consumers, resource suppliers, and eligible National Guard Soldiers/Airmen and family members regarding psychological health services and community prevention; employ social marketing of primary and secondary prevention interventions; facilitate awareness of and accessibility to available service; establish networking, advocacy, and collaboration processes; identify and select mediums that provide the greatest exposure of and access to psychological health services and resources; create marketing campaigns, deliver quality of life messages to targeted populations, and facilitate media coverage; conduct social climate and marketing analyses; facilitate the psychological health team; develop and conduct training on values clarification, customer care and internal marketing, promotion, advertising, publicity, and public relations; develop and implement techniques to determine customer satisfaction; implement psychological health outcome measures; ensure program complies with applicable DOD policies, Army Regulations, Air Force Instructions, National Guard guidance, policy letters, and other official guidance; formulate strategies for marketing the psychological health program; facilitate the psychological health team to develop and maintain the Marketing Plan; evaluate the effectiveness of outreach program activities; provide assessment, advice, education, and training to other military and non-military health care professionals, medical personnel, military commanders/senior leaders, and community agencies concerning primary and secondary prevention programs; compile and present findings of community and unit needs assessments; brief commanders, senior leadership, and other key personnel on prevention issues; educate military and non-military communities on psychological health issues and serve as local professional authority on prevention issues; recruit, train, and facilitate volunteers to support the National Guard.
MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:
Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Security Clearance and Drug Testing - All positions require a security clearance and drug testing. Applicants must possess or be able to obtain a the appropriate clearance within one year of appointment. Applicants must pass a drug test prior to appointment.

Education - Master's degree in Social Work from a graduate school of social work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and acceptable to The Surgeon General.
