TOUR OF DUTY: 8:00pm-4:30pm; rotating day shift and call. (rotates 8-4:30 and 8:30-5p)
This position is located in Radiology Service at the Durham VAMC in Durham, NC. The incumbent's primary responsibilities are in the performance of supporting vascular-interventional procedures. Performs a wide variety of routine to moderate complex technical and clinical functions in the Pre-op/Intra-Op/Post-op setting to assist the Vascular Interventionalist in the performance of minimally invasive vascular and non-vascular procedures including digital radiography, peripheral angiography, visceral angiography, cerebral angiography, therapeutic interventions, C-arm fluoroscopy, vein ablations in the Radiology Interventional suite and endovascular case support in the Operating Room.
Operates independently and without direct supervision to perform specialized technical and clinical functions that include procedural circulating and scrub duties; angiographic system operations (table/C-Arm/injections/ultrasound machine/accessory monitors, workflow, interface and buttonology); image management )acquisitions, manipulation and post-processing); procedural setup and clean up' supply/inventory management; patient prep and procedural care assistance; patient and exam data management functions in the electronic health information system (VISTA/CPRS/PACS); coordination of patient care with medical staff and patients; conforms to radiation safety practices and procedures as they relate to the ionizing radiation environment in the interventional suite.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet the following requirements:
a. Citizenship. Citizen of the United States.
b. Certification. All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (R).
c. Experience or Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate's degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), and certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in radiology.
d. English Language Proficiency. Must be proficient in spoken and written English
GRADE DETERMINATION:
Grade Determinations. In addition to the basic requirements for appointment, the following criteria must be used when determining the appropriate grade assignment of candidates:
GS-9:
(a) Experience. At least 1 year of experience at the next lower grade level that demonstrates the core competencies described at the next lower grade level
(b) Certification. Certification by ARRT in one of the specialized areas of radiologic technology
Creditable Experience
Experience is only creditable if it was earned after completion of the basic requirements. Experience as a graduate DRT is creditable provided the candidate functioned as a DRT and subsequently passed the certification examination.
