This position is located in the National Defense Reserve Fleet (NDRF), Office of Ship Operations, Office of the Associate Administrator for National Security, Maritime Administration (MARAD).
The National Defense Reserve Fleet (NDRF) is the anchorage site for numerous laid-up of merchant and military ships of all types and designs that are maintained according to their assigned status in an appropriate seaworthy condition The NDRF is charged with the responsibility for custody, security, preservation, maintenance and accountability of all types and sizes of ocean-going merchant type vessels and naval auxiliary vessels, including a special high priority group of Ready Reserve Force ships. The ships are maintained in a preserved, inactive state in accordance with established program criteria.
This position is established to lead employees involved in working with a crew of mechanics, riggers, and laborers assigned in two major programs aboard vessels in the NDRF: deck and hull coating maintenance; and implementation of Marad's Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).
The ideal candidate should possess knowledge of shipboard construction and layout, decks, superstructure, hatches, and topside equipment such as cargo gear, winches, mooring equipment, drainage and piping systems.
