The John D. Dingell Veterans Affairs Medical center, Detroit, Michigan, Department of Medicine seeks FEE BASIS Pulmonary/Critical Care or Anesthesia staff physician preferably with board certification in internal medicine and/or anesthesia and preferably board eligibility or board certification in critical care or pulmonary medicine . Compensation is at the rate of $180.00 per hour.
The responsibilities include all duties related to evaluating, admitting, transferring and taking care of critically ill patients in the Detroit VA combined medical and surgical ICU. The ICU physician also runs all medical codes in the Detroit VAMC. The candidates should be competent in all ICU procedures including airway management. The candidate should also be ACLS and BLS certified.

Physical Requirements:
Heavy lifting and carrying (45+ lbs.); As needed - Straight pulling, pulling handover hand, pushing and reaching above shoulders, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, repeated bending, climbing using both legs and arms; use of fingers and both hands required; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13'-16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; depth perception; ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing (aid permitted); working closely with others; working alone; protracted or irregular hours of work.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
