The incumbent serves as a fully qualified psychologist within the Mental Health Service of the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System. The incumbent has primary assignment at a Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) with time devoted to both the support of behavioral health services to primary care patients as part of the Mental Health-Primary Care Integration Program (PCMHI) and as a primary therapist for Mental Health Outpatients at the clinic. The incumbent will provide psychological services for a diverse, predominantly Veteran population with a wide range of psychological and health related behavioral problems. CBOC locations in Arkansas with available positions include Conway, Hot Springs, Mountain Home, and Searcy.
The incumbent will practice full time as a fully licensed psychologist at a designated CBOC . The CBOC has primary care teams as well as a mental health team consisting of a psychiatrist, nurse, and a social work therapist. The incumbent will work with primary care part of the time, providing the opportunity for warm hand offs and brief counseling for behavioral health issues. The incumbent will also provide treatment using empirically based protocols (EBPs) for mental health outpatients at the CBOC. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience in diagnosing and treating mental disorders and specific training in EBPs. The candidate will be self-directed and willing to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Basic Requirements:
Preferred Experience: The ideal candidate for this position will have experience in diagnosing and treating mental disorders and specific training in EBPs.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Grade Determinations:
In-addition to meeting the basic requirements, applicants must also meet the grade requirements for the particular grade he/she wishes to be considered. For the GS-13, staff psychologists hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. Staff psychologists diagnose mental disorders, conduct psychological and/or neuropsychological assessments, treat mental disorders through a variety of modalities and provide adjunctive interventions for treatment of medical disorders. Among the modalities provided are individual, family, and group psychotherapies, and other interventions such as biofeedback, psychological hypnosis, and environmental interventions. They consult with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues. Staff psychologists may be involved in program evaluation and/or research activities. In addition to the experience requirements at the GS-12 level, at least 1 additional year of experience as a psychologist equivalent to the next lower grade level.
