This position is a collateral duty assignment which provides support to the USCP and the Congressional community by providing honors at funerals and representing the Department at various official functions at the direction of the Chief of Police.
The work requires strenuous activity to include standing for long periods of time in a ceremonial position, marching, and carrying a casket.
Selected officers must successfully complete the Ceremonial Unit Training Program.
Note: Multiple vacancies exist. The number of Ceremonial Unit positions will be determined by the needs of the Department. As a member of the Ceremonial Unit, you will:
The following selection process will be used to further assess candidates who have met the initial eligibility factors. Candidates must qualify under Phase I and Phase II to be considered in subsequent phases.
Phase I: Initial Qualification - The Office of Human Resources (OHR) will conduct an eligibility factor review as outlined in this vacancy announcement. In consultation with the OHR, a review of all candidates' personnel jackets and unscheduled leave will be conducted by an appointed assessment panel.
Phase II: KSA Self-Assessment - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) will be evaluated by an appointed assessment panel.

This position is non-exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act overtime provisions.

Ceremonial Ability and Skills Test (CAST): Each task stands alone but must be tested in the order presented below. A candidate must successfully complete the task as described in order to pass the task. Failure to successfully complete any task constitutes failure of the CAST. When a candidate fails a task, the candidate does not then proceed to any other task.
Task 1: Standing and Inspection - The candidate will simulate standing for long periods of time in the position of "Attention" and "Parade Rest". During this simulation, the candidate will be inspected for compliance with USCP uniform and grooming standards.
Task 2: Basic Drill Commands and Movements - The candidate demonstrate their knowledge of basic drill commands and movements (e.g. salutes, facing movements, etc.)
Task 3: Rifle and Flag Carry - The candidate will demonstrate his/her ability to march with a rifle and a flag.
Candidates must pass each part of the CAST successively to continue to the oral interview.
