JOB DESCRIPTION: Supervisory positions involve planning, directing, assigning, leading, and monitoring work of the unit, hiring or selecting employees, and managing and appraising employee and organizational performance. Supervisors make decisions that impact the resources (people, budget, and material) of the work unit, ensure the technical quality and timeliness of the work produced by employees in the unit, and collaborate with supervisors across the organization in unstructured situations. Supervisors must supervise at least one government employee; they typically supervise between three to fifteen employees. Police Officers (Tactical Response) maintain law and order; enforce Federal laws, rules, and regulations; and, investigate accidents, criminal activity, and misconduct involving misdemeanors and felonies. They protect NGA personnel and assets by providing emergency response and protective measures. They also conduct patrols; prevent and detect violations; prepare accident and incident reports; perform searches; conduct interviews and briefings; and participate in, and train for, high-risk tactical operations (e.g., hostage or barricade negotiations).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The NGA Office of Protective Services - West (SIPW) seeks highly motivated Supervisory Police Officers to fill lateral duty position as a Sergeant. Position may also be filled in our Springfield, VA location. The Supervisory Police Officer supervises tasks such as granting leave request, evaluating performance, recommending disciplinary actions, solving work related problems, and participating in and carrying out EEO and affirmative action plans. The Office of Protective Services is a 24x7 operation. NGA Police Officers are required to work nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and are on-call on a 24-hour basis. Police Officer candidates must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions, and under strenuous and potentially dangerous conditions.
The successful candidate must pass the Tactical Response Team Physical Ability Test. In order to pass the test, an applicant must meet or exceed the passing score on each of the four tests:
1. Sit-ups. 40 in 1 minute
2. Illinois Agility Run. 18.34 seconds (better of two trials).
3. 1.5 mile run. 775 seconds (12:55).
4. Push-ups. 39 in 1 minute.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
You must be able to obtain and retain a Top Secret security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information. In addition, you are subject to a Counterintelligence Polygraph examination in order to maintain access to Top Secret information. NGA utilizes all processes and procedures of the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). Non-executive NGA employees are assigned to five distinct pay bands based on the type and scope of work performed. The employee's base salary is established within their assigned pay band based on their unique qualifications. A performance pay process is conducted each year to determine a potential base pay salary increase and/or bonus. An employee's annual performance evaluation is a key factor in the performance pay process. Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in law enforcement or security work that provides knowledge of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques. Experience can also include military work that involved protecting property, equipment, data, or materials; making judgments based on the application of directions, rules, regulations, or laws; or other work that provided the required knowledge and skills related to law enforcement or security work. A valid driver's license and must maintain a valid driver's licenses while employed at NGA; Successful completion of an initial Physical Ability Test (PAT) as mandated by DOD Instruction 5525.15 and determined by command staff.
