Position Description Title/PD#: [Food Service System Manager]
RELOCATION INCENTIVE/RECRUITMENT INCENTIVE IS NOT AUTHORIZED.
This position is in Nutrition and Food Services (NFS) of the VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS).The incumbent is responsible for all aspects of food service operations at the Menlo Park Division. This position requires a high level of professional maturity/judgment and works independently with minimal supervision.
The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Able to manage a large group of staff from various ethnic backgrounds and socio-economic level
· Provide occasional coverage for subordinate supervisor or manager at other division.
· Actively participates in process improvement programs.
· Assures that all policies and procedures are in compliance with VHA manuals, NFS program guides, Long Term Care Institute and The Joint Commission standards.
· Assists in aligning service priorities with healthcare system's strategic goals.
· Serves as Acting Chief, NFS in the absence of the Chief.
· Perform various duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:This position requires light lifting under 15 pounds, both hands required; walking & standing 1 hour; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; depth perception; ability to distinguish basic color, shades of colors; hearing (aid permitted). The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs.

Basic Requirements:

Completed a didactic program in dietetics accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), formerly known as the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetic Education (CADE). AND
Must have completed an ACEND accredited or approved supervised practice program. Supervised practice programs are post-baccalaureate degree programs that provide supervised practice experiences which meet the eligibility requirements and accreditation standards of ACEND. Completion of coordinated program in dietetics fulfills the requirements of a supervised practice program.
Individuals who have earned college and/or university degrees outside the United States and is territories also must have their transcripts evaluated by a foreign transcript evaluation service to determine if their degree is equivalent to a degree granted in the United States(Must be submitted at time of application).
Exception. Non-CDR registered applicants who otherwise meet the minimum qualification requirements may be appointed, pending CDR registration as a temporary full-time graduate dietitian. This appointment may not exceed 2 years. Applicants appointed under this exception must provide care under the supervision of a registered dietitian at or above the full performance level. Applicants who fail to obtain CDR registration during this temporary full-time appointment may be terminated. For grade levels at or above the full performance level the candidate must be registered with the CDR.
Grandfathering Provision. All persons employed in VHA as a dietitian on the effective date of the qualification standard are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the title, series and grade held, including positive education and registration requirements or board certification, if applicable.
English Language Proficiency. Dietitians must be proficient in spoken and written English.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
