Officially established in October 2006, the Orlando VA Medical Center serves more than 105,000 Veterans in Central Florida and includes a 120-
bed Community Living Center, two Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Programs/Domiciliaries (60-beds located at the Lake
Nona Campus and 58-beds at the Lake Baldwin Campus), three large multi-specialty Satellite Outpatient Clinics in Orlando (Lake Baldwin
campus), Viera and Daytona Beach, and four Community-Based Outpatient Clinics located in Clermont, Kissimmee, Orange City, and Tavares. The
new medical center at Lake Nona is open for outpatient and inpatient services and will continue to expand inpatient beds, Emergency Services,
and other specialty services throughout 2017. As VA's newest state-of-the-art health care facility, Orlando's 65-acre medical campus
encompasses 134 acute inpatient beds, providing complex Medical/Surgical/Mental Health specialty care, advanced diagnostic services, and a
large multispecialty outpatient clinic.

The Orlando VA Medical Center is seeking a Certified Diabetes Educator/ Registered Nurse to assist us in teaching self-management techniques
to patients diagnosed with diabetes at our Lake Nona location to include both inpatients and outpatients. The Diabetes Nurse Educator is a
clinician, educator and patient advocate in the specialty of diabetic nursing practice. He/she provides indirect nursing care to patients who are
seen in the Diabetics Clinic at the Orlando VA Medical Center and may include occasional travel to the Outpatient CBOC Clinics. He/she
collaborates with Case Managers, nursing staff, and Medical teams to provide education and ensure appropriate testing and follow-up. He/she
plays an important role in Performance Measures and collects/reports this data to leadership. In addition, he/she collaborates with the Diabetes
Clinic team and assists the Diabetes Education Program Coordinator with clinic coordination. The Diabetes Nurse Educator is responsible for the
integrity, uniformity, continuity and quality of clinical nursing practice for the Diabetes Education Program. The RN will be based primarily out of
the Lake Nona location, however he/she may travel to the Outpatient CBOC clinics regularly and may also be involved in Telehealth Medicine.
Work Schedule: Normal work days/hours will be Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with work day/hours flexibility as patient care needs
require.
Physical Requirements: The incumbent of the position performs direct patient care and must meet the below physical requirements to
perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Lift 45 lbs. or over, Carry 45 lbs. or over, Straight
pulling, Pushing, Reaching above shoulders, use of fingers and both hands, Walking, Standing, Kneeling, Repeated bending, Near vision
