The Internship Program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school and while getting paid for the work performed.
Students who successfully complete the program may be eligible for conversion to a permanent job in the civil service. The target position upon graduation would be to a qualifying position as a Biological Science Lab Technician
This position is located in the USDA. Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Plant Protection snd Quarantine (PPQ), Science and Technology's Plant Epidemiology and Risk Analysis Lab (PERAL). Applicants must be available to work a regular schedule when classes are in session as well as during scheduled breaks.
The Marketing and Regulatory Programs will be at North Carolina State University, College of Natural Resources accepting applications for this position. Applications will be accepted on-site at Talley Student Union,

This position is being announced at the GS-799-4 developmental level with promotion potential to the GS-799-7 full performance level. At the GS-799-4 level, performance of the following duties will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence, and may reflect limited complexity and personal contacts.
• The employee schedules, develops, or prepares technical background materials in support of study plans relative to the import/export of plants and plant products; and develops data called for by the risk and pathway analysis study plans and assists with the compilation and refinement of resulting data.
• Prepares background papers, briefings, reports, charts, and other documents and materials related to imports and exports of plants and plant products through research of scientific sources, information in existing files, and other sources as directed.
• Ensures pertinent data is logged in a timely fashion and kept up to date.
• Reviews draft briefings, reports, etc., for consistency with established government and local formatting guidelines prior to submission.
• Assists with ensuring that citations and references are archived in a manner consistent with PERAL practices.
• Assists with arrangements for scientific meetings, workshops, conferences, seminars, and planning sessions in support of scientific issues related to the import and export of plants and plant products.
•Resolves common logistic concerns related to projects and studies and develops explanations for unusual results that seem inconsistent.
Conversion eligibility and position are not guaranteed and depend upon the program unit's needs.
