The Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center is recruiting Medical Support Assistants. The Medical Support Assistants will function within various Services across the Medical Center. The Medical Support Assistant duties include:
Work Schedule: Shifts include Sunday through Saturday from 7:00am-3:30pm, 8:00am-4:30pm, 8:30am-5:00pm, 9:30am-6:00pm, Noon-8:30pm (mid-shift), 3:00pm-11:30pm, or 12:00am (Midnight)-8:00am with possible rotating holidays and weekends.
Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position.
Physical Requirements: The physical requirements of this position are concerned with the mental and physical ability of the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the proposed assignment and may include requisite laboratory and other screening as required by Federal regulatory agencies. This position requires light lifting up to 15lbs and the use of fingers.
Basic Requirement:
Experience: Six months of clerical, office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position;
OR
Education: One year above high school;
OR
Experience/Education Combination: Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable.
Grade Determinations:
GS-03 Specialized Experience: None beyond the basic requirements.

GS-04 Specialized Experience: You must possess one year of experience equivalent to the GS-03 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience which equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform successfully the duties of the Medical Support Assistant, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position. Examples of specialized experience include: clerical or office work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position;

GS-04 Education: You must possess two years of education above high school.
OR
GS-05 Specialized Experience: You must possess one year of experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience which equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform successfully the duties of the Medical Support Assistant, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position. Examples of specialized experience include: explaining benefits, scheduling, canceling, and rescheduling patient appointments, entering no-show information, verifying and updating demographics and insurance information, and monitoring both inpatient and outpatient appointments for areas of responsibility;

GS-05 Education: You must possess four years of education above high school.
