This position is a GS-1811 position and requires the ability to carry a firearm and the appropriate criminal investigative training and experience.
This position meets the conditions outlined for a "Secondary" position in accordance with 5 CFR 842.802 and applicable OPM retirement policies due to the preponderance of time spent in managerial and case oversight duties. Special conditions: Subject to work unscheduled duty hours and must be available for unscheduled duty based upon the needs of the USCG. Therefore, eligible for Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP) of an additional 25% and is subject to the provisions of the LEAP Act of 1994. Selectee must have completed basic criminal investigator training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center or equivalent prior to application. This is a "Secondary" position covered under the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS), 5 USC 8336(c) or Federal Employee's Retirement System (FERS) special retirement provision 5 USC 8412(d). Coverage is extended only if appointment to this position immediately follows service in a law enforcement covered position. FERS applicants for this position must have completed 3 years of continuous service in a "Primary/Rigorous" position in order to continue coverage upon selection. As a condition of employment, the selectee will remain subject to a mobility agreement which requires acceptance of relocation/reassignment to a position within a different geographic area if required by the Agency. A mobility agreement must be signed prior to appointment. The incumbent must carry firearms and maintain proficiency in their care and use. As the Special Agent-in-Charge (SAC) of the Coast Guard Investigative Service (CGIS), Washington Field Office (WFO), in Alexandria, VA, serves as the senior level manager within the CGIS Washington Field Office, responsible for all administrative and operational activities within their Area of Responsibility, to include those of their subordinate Resident Agent Offices (RAO), distribution of work to be accomplished by other employees, relaying priorities, and reviewing investigative products for content, clarity and timeliness. As the senior level manager, responsible for all CGIS operations conducted within the maritime jurisdiction of the Coast Guard, to include criminal investigations (internal and external), protective service operations, and law enforcement liaison. Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team.
