You will serve as a Time and Leave Clerk (Timekeeper) for Nursing Service at the Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital. You will be responsible for the timely preparation, maintenance, and submission of electronic timecards. You will determine the entitlement of employees based on various times of duty and when the hours of work are performed for on call, holiday, holiday with on call premium, compressed tours, holiday benefit day, weekend, and off tour pay differentials. You will input work schedules, hours worked, leave taken, overtime and compensatory time worked, and various tours of duty, and will ensure that appropriate approvals are entered the automated pay and leave system by nursing supervisory staff. You will be required to keep nursing managers and employees informed of a broad variety of proper time and leave regulations, entitlements, and procedures, and will provide nursing management with accurate data for reports on sick leave usage and overtime usage. You will collect and maintain all appropriate time and leave documentation and supporting documents for Nursing Service employees. You will also be required to compose and type reports and memos requesting leave without pay, new tours, and new supervisor certifying official requests. You must be skilled in the use of office equipment such as computers, calculators, fax, copy/scanners, and multi-line telephones.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday - 07:00am-3:30pm except every other Monday and Friday 6:00am-2:30pm

Physical Requirements: The work is mainly sedentary. Walking, sitting, standing, bending, and carrying of papers and office supplies are involved in the performance of duties.
Specialized Experience:
Applicants must have One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-05) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: maintaining and submitting time and attendance records, tracking time and leave schedules, ability to use various software programs.
OR
Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-05 level by successfully completing 4-years above high school in any field.
OR
Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-05 level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-05. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position

Typing Proficiency: In addition to meeting the experience or education requirement, applicants for this position must show the skills of typing at least 40 words per minute with no more than three errors in a five minute time frame.
