The Orlando VAMC is seeking a full-time Psychiatrist (preferably) Board Certified. Added qualifications in Psychosomatic Medicine or extensive Consultation/Liaison experience are a plus. The Mental Health Service is seeking someone who will be a part of the Primary Care Mental Health Integration team and will also provide expertise for the development of a Consultation/Liaison Service.
As part of the Primary Care-Mental Health Integration (PC-MHI) team, the Psychiatrist provides psychiatric consultation, evaluation, and short term care to Veterans whose mental health needs can be effectively managed within primary care, given the support of a PCMHI psychologists and the Behavioral Health Lab. Responsibilities include providing timely curbside, telephone, and electronic consultation to primary care staff. Help primary care staff identify patients who are appropriate for integrated care, and help PC-MHI team refer patients needing a higher level of care to specialty mental health services. Participate in weekly review of RN Care Manger cases to review medications and make recommendations to PCP.
The Psychiatrist must have a desire to provide education and training to medical students, residents and Primary Care Providers and have flexibility to train non-physicians in the use of psychotropic medications. Other duties may include cross coverage of the outpatient mental health clinic, as well as video teleconferencing support of other CBOCs. Interest in the integration of mental health and medical care as well as comfort working as a member of an interdisciplinary team are important for this position, as are flexibility and adaptability.
We have medical school affiliations and offer medical student and psychiatry resident rotations at the facility. This is a great opportunity for energetic, far-sighted, and computer-literate physician who looks forward to expanding not only clinical care, but also advances in the electronic medical record, patient safety initiatives, as well as advances in academic psychiatry as a preceptor.
The candidate must be willing to work weekends and irregular work hours and may need to provide clinical services off tour and will be required to do so upon receiving critical clinical messages. The candidate must be willing to be placed, detailed or temporarily assigned to other related services and/or locations, if necessary.
All providers may be detailed to any site within the Orlando system.
This positions is expected to obtain/maintain buprenorphine credentialing and will participate in a large pool of rotating call.
