The Animal and Plant Health Inspection service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) administers a comprehensive system of programs to protect the health and value of American agriculture and natural resources. This position is located in the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), International Services (IS), Office of the Associate Deputy Administrator for Action Programs (AP). The incumbent serves as a Program Coordinator and is responsible for the planning, developing and directing programs and policies for AP in order to protect the health and value of American agriculture and natural resources. The AP guard against the introduction or reemergence of plant and animal pests and diseases that could limit agriculture production and damage expert markets. These programs are a critical part of the safeguarding system to prevent the introduction of plant and animal pest and diseases.
The incumbent will also serve in the capacity of General Director and manages and supervises the discharge of all Action Program’s functions either at Head Quarters or when posted overseas at APHIS offices overseas in Panama and Guatemala.
Position is intended to prepare the incumbent for conversion to an Overseas Limited Appointment (not-to-exceed 2-4 years) with a possible 1 year extension in Guatemala and/or Panama. Costs for relocating to Guatemala and/or Panama will be covered.
The selectee must sign a mobility agreement to relocate overseas. Prior to an official offer, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) must be signed and returned to Human Resources acknowledging and accepting that geographic mobility is a condition of employment. Failure to sign the MOU will be grounds for withdrawal of the job offer.
