The selectee for this position will serve as a POLICE OFFICER in the OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT, FORCE PROTECTION PROGRAM of NAVSTA NEWPORT SECURITY DETACHMENT.

The successful selectee will perform the following duties:
Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
Must be able to obtain an interim and/or final (e.g., confidential/secret/top secret, etc.) security clearance prior to entrance on duty AND must be able to maintain the required level of clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
Selectee will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
Selectee must obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the applicant fails to report to the scheduled drug test appointment. Incumbents of drug testing designated positions will be subject to random testing. Drug test results will be provided to the employing activity/command.
Must successfully complete a required Police Training Academy or equivalent course, e.g. Navy Police Officer Academy; a federal or military police academy; or equivalent law enforcement training. Must also successfully complete any annual sustainment training. Level 1 Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) contamination training (if applicable), and OC refresher training.
Employee is required to wear an assigned uniform and display official designated items or accessories to include additional required equipment.
The employee must follow and adhere to applicable grooming standards for the installation.
Must meet applicable federal and/or state minimum age requirements for the assigned installation.
Must maintain applicable weapons qualification standards at the assigned installation.
The incumbent must carry firearms and maintain proficiency in the use of assigned equipment.
Incumbent must be able to read, write, and speak English.
Must meet OPM hearing and vision requirements to include distinguishing basic shades of color.
Employee must successfully pass an initial, annual, or any required OPM, DoD, or Department of the Navy mental and emotional stability screening, physical agility test, and a physical fitness for duty test.

This position has promotion potential to the GS-06 grade. Physical Demands: Work requires extended periods of physical exertion derived from such activities as running, walking, standing, climbing, bending, driving, and lifting/carrying heavy items. Requires physical stamina, agility and strength to defend themselves, defend others, and pursue and apprehend or detain suspects. Regulations require at a minimum a periodic physical agility test. Officers undergo sustainment training in defensive tactics to include Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) qualification, handcuffing, Taser, and firearms qualifications which require physical strength, skill, and stamina. Note: Qualification includes exposure to Oleoresin Capsicum spray as well as Taser when required for assigned duties as part of the training curriculum/qualification to carry.
Work Environment: The work is performed in an environment which involves exposure to regular and recurring discomforts, such as variations in weather while performing patrols. The incumbent may be exposed to high levels of noise in certain industrial settings, destructive weather or higher Force Protection Conditions (FPCON). Work involves moderate and high risk and possible endangerment of life or serious injury that requires the exercise of safety precautions and us of personal protective equipment such as body armor, reflective vests, coats, gloves, helmet, boots, goggles, masks, shields, etc.
