The primary purpose of these positions are to machine repairable parts by independently set-up, layout, adjust, and operate appropriate machine tools such as engine lathes, turret lathes, various milling machines and various precision grinders and performs machining operations of different metals and metal alloys in the manufacture, repair, and modification of aircraft jet engine parts and components.
Other Significant Facts:
1. Appointment is contingent upon passing a physical examination.
2. Incumbent may be subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
3. Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain appropriate background investigation or security clearance.
4. May be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends and/or holidays.

Physical Demands: Work requires standing, stooping, bending and reaching. Frequently handles, lifts and carries objects weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally lifts and moves heavier items with assistance. Also requires active bending, stooping, prolonged standing, manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
Working Environment: Work is performed inside in areas that are usually noisy and dirty, and where there is a constant danger to the skin and eyes from flying metal chips and abrasive particles. Possibility of developing skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants, and abrasive compounds; danger to fingers, hands, and other parts of the body from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating pieces, and moving parts of machines.

The description of your work experience in your application (or other acceptable written format) must clearly demonstrate that you have gained and currently possess the following knowledge, skill, and abilities shown below to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position being filled:
1. Ability to do the work of Machinist without more than normal supervision (this is a Screenout element. Screenout elements are the critical knowledge, skills, and abilities that are essential for satisfactory job performance. Applicants must receive a minimum of two points on the Screenout element to be deemed eligible for consideration.);
2. Skill in the setup and operation of conventional machines tools such as lathes, various milling machines, and various precision grinders;
3. Skill in the machining processes and operation;
4. Ability to use shop drawings, blueprints, and sketches.
5. Skill in the use of measuring devices and pertinent hand tools for machine shop.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and/or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours worked per week.

ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: The VOW Act Chapter 21 of Title 5, United States Code (U.S.C.), Section 2108a, requires Federal agencies treat active duty service member as veterans, disabled veterans, and preference eligible, when they submit, at the time they apply for a Federal job, a "certification" of active service in lieu of a DD214, assuming the service member is otherwise eligible.
