This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans health Administration, Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network, VA Medical Center, Nursing & Patient Care Services, Hampton, VA.
The Informatics Registered Nurse possesses an expert understanding of clinical treatment modalities, organization and administration of the VA Healthcare delivery systems, educational principles, clinical information systems, accreditation and regulatory standards, and program development. Incumbent serves as the Nursing Service ADPAC and BCMA Coordinator, working with a broad range of responsibilities regarding the planning, implementing and evaluating of computer applications which are associated with medication management processes. Incumbent needs to be familiar with various nursing databases and assist nursing leaders with analysis of data and systems redesign.
The position reports to the Associated Director for Patient Care Service/Nurse Executive. The practice setting includes all areas of the hospital where nursing staff practice; inpatient, outpatient, and outlying clinics.

Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary in an office setting working with a computer, phone, and other informatics type equipment, however involves frequent periods or moving about the hospital visiting the various nursing units. The work required regular bending, pushing, and stooping when implementing new technology equipment on the units i.e. new medication carts with BCMA. May have extended periods of classroom instruction; may have extended periods of observing nursing activities.
Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Preferred Experience: Certification from a national informatics certifying body.
