This position is located in the Voice of America's, (VOA), Africa Division in Washington, DC. The incumbent serves as a Senior Editor for the Somali Service. Incumbent must have a proven track record as a Somali language broadcast journalist with experience writing/adapting stories that are unique, comprehensive and have global or original appeal.

INTRODUCTION TO AGENCY: The Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG), an independent federal agency, is an exciting, multi-cultural organization that encompasses all United States civilian international broadcasting. The BBG is comprised of five networks broadcasting in 61 languages that include the Voice of America, the Office of Cuba Broadcasting (Radio and TV Marti), and three grantee organizations - Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty; the Middle East Broadcasting Networks (Alhurra TV and Radio Sawa), and Radio Free Asia. The International Broadcasting Bureau provides transmission, administrative, and other support services; and three grantee organizations. Duties include, but are not limited to:
~Plans and directs the development of radio, TV and/or Internet programming and program packages in the Somali language by analyzing political, cultural and economic trends in order to meet U.S. objectives and present a cohesive, listenable or watchable broadcast to the people of Somalia.
~Selects and writes highly targeted program materials or complex and balanced original scripts for broadcast by the service.
~Selects and approves program material for radio, TV and/or Internet for appropriateness of content, balance and targeted area interest.
~Develops radio and/or TV program line-up to ensure a balanced broadcast.
~Arranges for staff members to cover events. Edits completed radio and TV scripts and/or material for service website to ensure accuracy of tone, balance and policy conformance
