This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration, Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network, VA Medical Center, in the ENDO/Surgery Clinic, Nursing, Hampton, VA.
Nurse Managers demonstrate leadership in delivering and improving holistic care utilizing collaborative strategies with patients, family members/significant others, and members of the interdisciplinary team. Specific practice settings for managerial assignment include OR/PACU, Critical Care, Acute Care, Mental Health and Extended Care and Geriatrics. The managerial practice of each Nurse Manager is based on knowledge, experience, and research and has a direct impact on outcomes in the assigned area and facility, as well as staff development in all phases of Nursing Practice.
Major Duties:
The Nurse Manager is accountable to the Chief Nurse of her/his assigned program or designee. The Nurse Manager is responsible for providing leadership in delivering and improving holistic patient care through collaborative strategies with others. The Nurse Manager is responsible and accountable for the management and supervision of all nursing personnel and support staff as assigned. The Nurse Manager is also responsible and accountable for demonstrating the educational, experiential, and knowledge/practice-based competency requirements outlined in the four (4) dimensions:

Physical Requirements: The work is generally sedentary in nature, requiring much use of the computer, phone, fax, and copier. The work does required periods of moving about the hospital, checking on nursing units, picking up reports, and observing nursing care activities. The work on rare occasion may require bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, lifting and repositioning patients or similar activities. Generally these activities are done when assisting other nursing staff.
Preferred Experience: A minimum of two (2) years experience working in outpatient surgery and endoscopy.
