This position is an entry-level engineer hired under the requirements and provisions of Reclamation’s Rotation Engineer Program. The program provides for intensive training and professional development. A program participant may be promoted from GS-7 to the GS-9 after a minimum of 6 months of intensive training and evidence of professional development as documented through successful performance in the program. Only 1 accelerated promotion may be granted and promotions are neither guaranteed nor automatic, but initiated at the request of the supervisory official.

- Analyzes difficult and complex engineering problems and develops layouts and final designs of hydraulic equipment installations such as hydraulic turbines, pumps, pump-turbines, governors, structural and regulating gates, steel pipe, steel design, factory inspection, equipment installation and other hydraulic equipment in buildings, hydroelectric power plants, pumping plants, and pumping generating plants.
- Makes recommendations for special investigations when new and difficult design problems arise.
- Prepares technical paragraphs of supply and installation specifications for hydraulic equipment and systems which have been selected or designed, and for coordination by other engineers in the group or team who are responsible for the compilation of the complete specifications.
- Reviews manufacturers’ drawings and recommends revisions necessary for compliance with specifications in regard to stresses in materials and suitability of design for field assembly and intended service or performance.
