The VA Boston Healthcare System Medical Service serves as a tertiary care referral center for the veteran population throughout New England and is a major teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School and Boston University School of Medicine. The Cardiology Section invites applications for a full-time faculty position as Director of the Ambulatory Cardiology Service.
The Director of Ambulatory Cardiology will be responsible for directing the outpatient cardiology services at VA Boston and coordinating outpatient cardiology care at the Bedford VA Medical Center. The Ambulatory Cardiology service at VA Boston has 30,000 scheduled visits per year in various general and subspecialty clinics. The clinics provide outpatient training for 35 cardiology fellows each year from the Brigham and Women's Hospital and Boston Medical Center.
The Director will participate in other activities of the Section that include teaching students, resident, and fellows, attending on the inpatient cardiology and consult services, EKG reading and cardiac rehabilitation. Interest in preventive cardiology and rehabilitation are desirable. The applicant will be encouraged to develop a clinical research or quality improvement program.

Candidates must be capable of interactions with patients and health care personnel in a caring and professional manner. The candidate must be able to tolerate physically taxing workloads, to function effectively under stress, to adapt to changing environments, and to display flexibility.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Candidates should have at least 5 years of clinical experience and be recognized for excellence in patient care and teaching in an academic setting. Expertise in preventive cardiology is preferred and experience in clinical research is desirable. Candidates must be board certified in internal medicine and cardiology. Academic accomplishments should be commensurate with academic appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level at Harvard Medical School or Boston University School of Medicine.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
