The Chief of Surgery provides oversight to approximately 160 FTEE VA Civilian and DOD staff within the Department of Surgery including Anesthesia, Surgical Sub-specialties and the Operating Room Suites. Provides direct supervision to the Business Manager and the Associate Chief Nurse in addition to all Section Heads and other personnel as designated and will report directly to the Associate Director, Specialty Care Directorate. The Provider will act as point of contact for physicians and clinical staff which includes training, documentation, process work flow, and other functionality regarding necessary clinical systems. The Chief is responsible for quarterly VASQIP (Veterans Administration Surgical Quality Improvement Program) data which is submitted to the National Surgery Office. The Chief works closely with the VASQIP nurse in review and submission of data.
This Department Head position carries public relation responsibilities that require the individual to maintain a positive rapport with VISN 12 Chief Surgical Consultant, neighboring hospitals and internal faculty and staff. The incumbent holds monthly department meetings which allows the Chief to communicate with the members of his/her department. The individual will also help resolve internal disputes among faculty and staff, as well as respond to patient complaints.
Above all other responsibilities, the candidate will be engaged in surgical procedures and responsible for carrying a clinical case load in their designated surgical field. The Department Head must be available to supervise and evaluate procedures performed in surgical suites. The ideal candidate should be board certified in a surgical specialty.
Work Schedule: Core hours: Monday - Friday 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM
