This position is located at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC), Director's Office, Office of Chief Counsel, Legal Training Division, Artesia, NM. The selectee will be responsible for conducting more than 60 basic and advanced legal training courses for law enforcement personnel from over 90 Federal agencies, as well as State and local government entities.

Being an Attorney-Advisor (Instructor) makes you a valuable member of the FLETC team. You will serve as one of the Attorney-Advisors assigned to research, develop, design, conduct, deliver, and support law enforcement training provided by the FLETC to its partner organizations and various other customers. Background Investigation: To ensure the accomplishment of our mission, DHS requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully pass a background investigation for a Secret clearance as a condition of placement into this position. This will include a credit check after a tentative job offer is given, a review of financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs. Continued employment is contingent upon favorable adjudication of periodic reinvestigations.
Physical Demands: There are a range of physical demands depending on the course demands. The work requires walking, standing, bending, kneeling, lying or sitting, reaching above shoulders, use of fingers and both hands and legs and climbing stairs and/or ladders that may be tiring or uncomfortable for periods of 4 hours or longer. There is a need for clear vision with the ability to distinguish people, objects, basic colors, shades of colors during day and nighttime hours; and hearing at a level to understand normal conversations with extraneous background noise, hearing aids are permitted. There is the need for moderate lifting, and potentially heavy carrying of equipment and packages or containers, and rearranging prop furniture and other training aids. Travel to field locations to coordinate training activities is involved.
Work Environment: The normal workplace is a classroom or office although some outside settings are used in excessive heat, ultraviolet rays, cold, humidity and dampness, dust, slippery or uneven walking surfaces, working around moving objects or vehicles. Occasionally the incumbent may be exposed to fumes, smoke, or gases, solvents, grease, oils, and explosives. The incumbent must also be able to work closely with others or alone; normal hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. however overtime and alternate work schedules may be implemented. Appropriate safety practices will be utilized at all times. Safety gear will be used if needed.
This is a drug testing position which requires a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Employment is contingent upon favorable results. You will also be subject to random drug testing.
All employees are required to participate in the Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer for salary payments.
The selectee will be subject to deployment to remote sites to provide "export training" at on-site locations.
The selectee will be subject to a two-year trial period as a condition of employment.

2. Instruction in matters as they relate to the evidence collection, interviewing, conducting criminal investigations and security functions, preserving constitutional rights and constructing effective courtroom presentations.
3. Ability to design, develop, and conduct legal training through a variety of instructional methodologies, including lecture, practical exercise, webinar and distance learning.
4. Performing course-related research and in persuasively presenting facts and results to a broad spectrum of individuals.
5. Ability to communicate effectively and reasonably both orally and in writing.
