You will serve in a developmental capacity as a full assistant to the Environmental Services Chief performing work involved in the development, coordination, direction, and management of effective hospital housekeeping programs. Assist in the planning, development, implementation of the overall housekeeping program and linen policies. Responsible for maintaining accurate housekeeping contract data. Conduct frequent visits to all facilities in order to provide assistance to hospital staff members. Serve as the linen manager, determining stock levels, conducting inventories, and coordinating with contractors. Develop and prepare input required for contract modifications.

Basic Entry Requirement: Applicants must meet one of the specific entry requirements listed below which apply to all Assistant Hospital Housekeeping Officer positions. (Note: You must submit a copy of your transcripts with your application package. For application purposes, unofficial transcripts are acceptable.)
A. Undergraduate Education with Major study in chemistry or biological sciences, sanitary science or administration, institutional sanitation or administration, hospital administration, hotel administration, public administration, business administration, or other fields related to the position.
B. Graduate Education with Major study in public health or business administration with emphasis in hospital administration.
C. General experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position. Examples of qualifying general experience include:
-Work that provided a practical knowledge of supervision and management.
-General administrative work in institutional or building maintenance with responsibility for employing and directing a housekeeping, laundry, or maintenance force; and responsibility for planning work schedules on both a short- and long-term basis.
-Performance of administrative duties that included estimating budget requirements, planning expenditures of funds, estimating materials and equipment needs, supervising employees, and recommending personnel actions.
-Teacher in a formal course of instruction related to supervision or management.
-Work that provided a practical knowledge of methods by which bacteria and viruses are spread and of preventive and control measures.
D. One year of formalized hospital administrative residency or internship in hospital administration or hospital housekeeping management.
In addition to meeting the basic entry requirement described above, applicants must have the general experience as defined below.
Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least three years of general experience, one year of which is equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the federal service. General experience is defined as: utilizing specific techniques in the performance of various types of cleaning, and laundry operation.
