Position Description Title/PD#: Medical Supply Technician PD# 657-2706A
Physical Requirements: Stands and moves from one part of the department to another while performing duties. There is a frequent requirement for lifting packages and bundles weighing up to 25 pounds and from loading/unloading carts in excess of 100 pounds while restocking carts to storage shelves. The employee regularly pushes loaded carts weighing several hundred pounds, aligns them on tracks leading to automatic transport systems in sometimes crowded quarters, prolonged standing, bending, stooping and lifting is required. He or she must be able to proficiently read, write and organize tasks. A high level of effective communication is required. Tension and stress must be managed as they are induced by the critical nature of producing work results on a pre-established time frame, as well as emergent situations.
Time-in-grade: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. For a GS-05 position you must have served in a position no lower than the GS-03 level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. 1 year of specialized experience at or above the GS-05 or equivalent level. This includes experience in processing, assembling, trouble-shooting, preparing, sterilizing, storing, and issuing medical supplies and equipment; knowledge of the technical names, general uses, physical characteristics, and operating conditions of medical supply items; knowledge of decontamination, cleaning, preparation, sterilization, and storage procedures; knowledge of aseptic techniques; and skill in operating various sterilizers and medical equipment cleaners. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include work as an operating room technician, nursing assistant, corpsman, or laboratory worker.

B. 4 years of study above high school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

C. A combination of experience and education that are equivalent to the minimum qualification requirements for this vacancy. To compute this, first determine how much qualifying experience you have, as a percentage of what's required. Then determine how much qualifying education you have, as a percentage of what's required. Then combine these two percentages. If the total is 100% or greater, then you meet the minimum qualifications for this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
