This position is located in the Division of Operational Software Support (DOSS) and performs a wide variety of duties and responsibilities in one of the DOSS branches. Work involves providing analysis, technical, and programming expertise in the development and maintenance of operating system software and data center operations support. The employee is responsible for ensuring the availability of systems, networks, and data through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance and enhancement of operating system software, policies, procedures, and tools. Work also involves one or more of the following platforms/operating systems: mainframe, PC/Windows, and or UNIX on multiple hardware platforms.
Provides the expert analysis, design, development, implementation, and support of systems control software including operating systems, multi-user utilities, locally prepared subroutines, and intercomputer communications and vendor proprietary software for the multiplatform environments. This software is utilized for the programmatic and management information workloads in SSA's data processing center, remote/support data centers, and the Division internal network environment.
Provides expert technical analysis for problem determination and coordination of system and/or software problems, employs problem analysis and resolution techniques, and analyzes the most difficult problems and determines the most effective methods of resolution.
Designs major extensions and enhancements to operating systems software to support current, revised and new functional requirements.
Prepares and presents oral and written recommendations to management on the feasibility of implementing new or revised operating systems software. Develops supporting documentation materials for the justification and acquisition of operating systems software.

LOCALITY PAY: Salary will be set in accordance with locality pay provisions. Candidates currently receiving a higher locality pay than the office applied for are advised that should they be selected, they will lose entitlement to the higher locality pay.
